Do You Know What’s in Your Ketchup?

To most people, ketchup seems like a harmless condiment that can be slathered on everything in copious amounts with no consequence. However, did you know that most ketchup products contain high fructose corn syrup? Also, if your ketchup isn’t organic, you’re probably getting an unhealthy dose of glyphosate too.

Make sure to pick an organic brand of ketchup that uses sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup, as sugar is the lesser of two evils. Unfortunately, at most restaurants you don’t get this luxury, so if you’re really dying for a condiment, go with mustard, as that usually doesn’t contain any sweeteners. Also, if you are avoiding added sugars at all costs, but still want ketchup, you can also make your own healthy ketchup, which I will show you how to do in another article.

There is a genius ketchup recipe used by one of my favorite health and nutrition specialists, Dr. Joel Fuhrman, M.D.. He makes and sells a Nutritarian Ketchup that uses dates instead of added sugars or corn syrup. The only ingredients he uses in that product are water, organic tomatoes, organic dates, organic rice vinegar, organic onion powder, organic garlic powder, and organic allspice. You can find his Nutritarian Ketchup here:

The brand of organic ketchup that I use most that is free from high fructose corn syrup is Heinz Organic. It tastes just like the original Heinz ketchup that most people know and love, but it’s organic and made with sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup. I get the two pack of the 44oz bottles on Amazon as it’s the best deal I can find:

Enjoy!
